3.8 out of 5 “In the Bedroom”

The synopsis of “In the Bedroom” sounded a little depressing, but in fact this was a great movie, beautifully acted, especially by Sissy Spacek and Tom Wilkinson. The subject was a little depressing, the loss of an only child to a violent incident, and this may have reduced the score given by some viewers, but most of us came away from the screening thinking, “What would I do if that was me? How would I react in those terrible circumstances?” Possibly, the film could have been edited by 10 minutes or so, but at the same time, the occasional inaction reflected the paralysis and helplessness of ordinary people in an extraordinary situation. Beautifully directed, very well acted and a story that stayed in the mind for a long time – are not these the definition of a fine film?
