“A Separation” scores 3.8 out of 5

Our last showing for the year was Iranian film “A Separation”, a powerful and ultimately sad film about the universal emotions of the breakdown of a relationship and the effect it has on everybody involved. Nobody is blameless, nobody is entirely to blame. One felt sympathy for all the characters involved, whose actions were all understandable, but our greatest sorrow was for the daughter, caught in the middle of the whole situation with no real way of reaching a solution.
Viewers had a mixed response from 1 star to 5, but generally most were impressed. Perhaps the only real criticism was that it went a little too long without reaching a real climax.
