“A Separation” with wine and cheese

A Separation Poster

Barossa Film Club’s last film screening for 2014 is an Iranian work which has won numerous awards and accolades. Directed by Asghar Farhadi and starring Peyman Moadi and Leila Hatami, this is an exquisite film, with an insight in to the problems of the modern Iran, which are not really that much different to moral dilemmas in our own society.
Set in contemporary Iran, A Separation is a compelling drama about the dissolution of a marriage. Simin wants to leave Iran with her husband Nader and daughter Termeh. Simin sues for divorce when Nader refuses to leave behind his Alzheimer-suffering father. Her request having failed, Simin returns to her parents’ home, but Termeh decides to stay with Nader. When Nader hires a young woman to assist with his father in his wife’s absence, he hopes that his life will return to a normal state. However, when he discovers that the new maid has been lying to him, he realizes that there is more on the line than just his marriage.
As this is our last film for the year, we are offering wine and cheese as refreshments. The evening will commence with an Australian short “Bad Language” at 7.30 pm, followed by a refreshment break and then “A Separation”. Faith Wine Centre Friday 14th November. Everybody is welcome to attend.
